FamilySearch Communities

FamilySearch recently added a community feature, and it is free! The community area offers forums in which to ask or to answer questions, to upload documents for translation assistance, and to find links to related resources, such as foreign word lists, FamilySearch wiki articles, and maps. Users can participate or lurk and learn.

To use the community feature, got to http://community.familysearch.org/ and log in with your FamilySearch user name and login information. The Research Groups tab leads to a list of groups to join. The site allows you to set preferences for group notifications. A weekly digest is the default.

A sampling of the many groups: Africa Genealogy Research, Austro-Hungarian Empire, British Isles, FamilySearch Tips and Tricks, Genetic Genealogy, Greece, Mathia Surname Research, Nordic Countries, Ohio Ancestors, Quebec, Scotland, and Virginia Genealogy.

For additional information on the community feature, and a link to a tutorial that offers assistance on how to sign up and how to bookmark your groups, see the FamilySearch wiki article “FamilySearch Genealogy Research Community.”

Enjoy!
